Within two weeks of installing AI-powered cameras on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, around 12,000 traffic violations have been recorded. The challans will be directly sent to the mobile phones of the vehicle owners, and the police have urged commuters to strictly adhere to traffic regulations on this major expressway in South India.

In a post on X, the Karnataka police stated, “Our cameras on the Bangalore-Mysore highway have detected 12,192 traffic violations in just 15 days. Traffic rule violations can lead to accidents, causing suffering to your family. Please consider this.”

Alok Kumar, Karnataka’s Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety), shared a photo taken by one of the cameras showing a KSRTC driver using a mobile phone. He commented, “Our powerful cameras on the Bengaluru-Mysore Highway can catch any violation, day or night. Please refrain from using mobile phones while driving @KSRTC_Journeys. Action should be taken against this driver for violating traffic rules.”

Earlier this month, 60 cameras were installed on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway to detect speeding and other violations. These AI-powered cameras can identify vehicles exceeding the speed limits and automatically issue traffic challans.

Of the 60 cameras, 48 are ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras placed at six locations in each direction. Additionally, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has installed video cameras at three other spots. Last July, the NHAI sent an expert committee to review and inspect the safety features of this road due to the high number of accidents since its launch.
